Horizon Casino Hotel, is a resort casino in South Lake Tahoe at Stateline, Nevada. Formerly the Sahara Tahoe and High Sierra Resorts, it is one of four major casino hotels at Stateline, Nevada.
History
The property opened as the Sahara Tahoe in 1965. Elvis Presley performed here from 1971-1976, and his suite is still available for guests to book. In 1983 The hotel was given a western theme and re-branded Del Webb’s High Sierra Hotel. In 1990 it was sold to Columbia Sussex who re-branded the hotel again as the Horizon Casino. As of 2005 Columbia Sussex (leaseholder) is in a contract dispute with Park Cattle Company, the landowners of the Horizon Casino and the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa (formerly Caesars Tahoe), which Columbia Sussex acquired from Harrah’s Entertainment.
Film history
The 2007 movie Smokin’ Aces was filmed at the Montbleu Casino and the Horizon Casino in the Summer of 2005
