Harveys is south Lake Tahoe’s mega hotel-casino. It’s a 20-story giant with 740 rooms set down right at the California-Nevada border between the Lake and the Heavenly Valley ski area. It houses Tahoe’s largest casino as well as convention facilities, myriad restaurants, a small shopping mall, health club and spa, entertainment venues, and more.Harveys is now owned by the Harrahs group of hotels and casinos, and Harrahs Lake Tahoe, which is nearly as large, is right across the street, connected by an underground tunnel. Both hotels have had fairly recent bottom to top renovations.Test your luck at the large and diverse casino, which includes about 1,200 slots, table games, video poker, keno, poker, etc. Of course, players get free drinks. You can get quite a bit of cheap entertainment at one of the $5 blackjack tables. [Since I first wrote this article, much has changed at the blackjack tables. It’s now almost impossible to find a table with a minimum below $10. They’ve also reduced the payout for a blackjack in single deck games from the traditional 3 to 2 to a truly lousy 6 to 5 at the same time they placed severe restrictions on doubling down. Frankly, I think the multideck games are now a much better choice.
