The resort
Spectacular lake views and fantastic skiing
Surrounded by the highest concentration of ski resorts in the US is Lake Tahoe. The attraction of this area is that from one or two bases you can visit most resorts. Squaw Valley stands out as one of the best areas next to Heavenly both in terms of skiable terrain, and choice of good value accommodation.
The skiing and boarding
Squaw Valley is the second largest resort in Lake Tahoe, and is situated on the North Shore. It boasts two powerful lifts leaving from the village; a jumbo gondola and a big cable car. From the top of the lifts less advanced skiers can ski in a gentle area of beginner slopes, while others looking for more difficult terrain can follow onto ski three of the biggest peaks in the area. You will be spoilt for choice and enjoy massive quantities of snow in wooded bowls and particularly empty slopes
The apres ski
Compared to the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe where the Las Vegas style casinos are found, the California side tends to have a calmer atmosphere. If you are looking for a quieter, village orientated option to your apres ski, Squaw Valley is the place for you!
